about
Fresh off the release of summer single “See How I Miss You,” Montreal-based singer-songwriter Cam Maclean is now sharing a third song, “Life is Not,” from his forthcoming record produced by 2021 Polaris Music Prize-winning rapper, writer and producer Rollie Pemberton (Cadence Weapon).
“Cam is an old friend of mine and one of the most talented guitarists I’ve ever met,” Pemberton says. “We started working on some music together, and it’s been a really fun experiment producing this album for him.”
“Life is Not is both irreverent and sincere,” Maclean says. “It tries to convey that, despite our best efforts, we’re not really always in control. I think we’ve all experienced this (especially in the past year and a half) and so it’s about those times in life where we need to let go of expectations and ideals, and just let things come to pass.”
lyrics
Lyrics:
Life is not windswept thoughts, or the dream that carries all the rest
Life is not cafe talk, or a field of vision you can test
And blood is rising in your chest, and thunder rolls on distant hills for what is left, in this love
Life is not just things that ought to be known, leave those stones unturned
Your heart is rolling on the crest of every wave that vanishes at shore
Under the sun, in this love, in this love, in this love...
Life is not windswept thoughts, or the dream that carries all the rest
Your voice is in the wilderness, though silent when the calls returned betray the past
In this love, life is not... in this love
